Young Writers are running a Pet Poetry competition and they have just extended the closing date to Friday 29th August 2014.

You could write about your pet, your favourite animal, the animal kingdom or even an imaginary creature! Perhaps wildlife conservation or the plight of a certain animal could be the inspiration for your poem.

Ideas for your poem…
Write an alphabet poem about lots of different animals
Write your poem from an animal’s point of view
Write about your pet, a wild animal or a dinosaur
Create a creature – what happens if you mix an octopus, a dragon and a kangaroo? Write a poem about your make-believe pet
Write about the plight of an animal
Write about the funny things your pet does!

Why Take Part?
Here’s a great chance to develop your creative writing skills, share your poem with other young writers and showcase your writing talents. There’s also the opportunity to have your poem published.

Prizes Up For Grabs!
The top 5 Pet Poets will win a year’s animal (elephant, turtle, tiger, polar bear or orang-utan) adoption package from WWF, plus there’s a Limited Edition bookmark for every entrant and a certificate of merit for every published poet.
