Last week, Years 1, 2 and 6 enjoyed separate talks from a lovely visitor, Tawny Rae (Mrs Bird’s mother) about her fascinating and memorable experiences as a child during World War II. She recalled sleeping many nights in an air raid shelter and having to run for the midwife late one night when she was about nine years old. (Her mother had taught her carefully what to do…and her baby sister was born safely!)
Other topics for discussion included the role of Anderson shelters, ARP wardens, rationing and life at school. We would like to thank Mrs Rae for giving up her time and providing us with such a thought-provoking visit.
