Book of the Week

This week’s book of the week is Ghosts of Shanghai by Julian Sedgwick.

Expat Ruby and her Chinese friends form the Shanghai Ghost Society and hide out in the ruined White Cloud Temple. They are obsessed with martial arts and ghosts stories. In an old bookshop they discover ‘the Almanac of the Other World’, and intend to hunt down the restless spirits. After the death of Ruby’s brother they find themselves in very real danger as it becomes clear that trouble is brewing, both in the spirit and real worlds…

1926 Shanghai is on the brink of a revolution and this makes for an exciting and colourful setting for this story, packed with adventure, intrigue, tension and thrills. A really fascinating and exhilarating page turning read for younger teens.

Suitable age range nine and upwards.
