Flutter by Butterfly!

After 3 weeks of watching the eggs hatch into caterpillars, Year 1 pupils the saw the caterpillars climb to the top of the habitat, spin a silk pad and hang upside down from the pad. After that the caterpillars shed their skins once more before they pupated and became chrysalides. Seven days later, the painted lady butterflies emerged, six in total! We fed the butterflies for a few days on sugar solution, strawberries and their favourite, mushy bananas, and then we released them into the school grounds.
