Reading Challenge – A report from Year 8

Every half term in English we are set a Reading challenge based on a certain theme or genre. After choosing a book, we read it and write a review which includes a brief summary of the plot, our opinions, some information about the author and we also draw a poster which I try to make really colourful.

We present our reports and posters to the class and our classmates ask us questions about the book. At first, I didn’t like the idea of reading books and presenting what I thought about them, but after a while I started to become more confident about giving a presentation. Speaking in front of the class and answering questions has really helped me gain confidence.

The reading challenges have also widened my imagination and given me a chance to read things I didn’t think I would normally have read. Over the past year I have read some books that I could never have imagined reading before but are now some of my all-time favourites.

I especially enjoyed the reading challenge when it was adventure stories. I loved it because they’re exciting, thrilling and tense all at the same time.
