We have a beautiful bed of dahlias just outside the Quiet Room – and gardener Andrew Young is looking for more varieties to add to its impact. He would like any fellow green-fingered friends who have different varieties to do a swap!
“It’s coming up to the right time of year to separate and thin out the dahlia tubers”, he said. “I will have some spare ones of the four varieties we have (pictured above) – two are cactus types and two pompoms. If anyone has some different colours or shapes and would like to swap, please let me know via the school office.”
Did you know?
Dahlias are flowering plants native to Mexico, with a whole range of flower shapes and colours giving a great display right into Autumn. They are also related to sunflowers and chrysanthemums.
