This week is National Nest box Week (NNBW), an annual event organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO). As well as giving the birds in your garden a helping hand, hanging up your very own bird box lets you watch the blue tits and other birds as they collect moss and make their nest in readiness for egg laying this spring.
Mrs Bird is hoping some blue tits will move into her birdbox outside her Year 1 classroom. “I have checked that the camera is still working in the box and only last week found a live snail hibernating inside,” she said, “but the best news is, I’ve noticed some new moss and a collection of tiny feathers.”
The picture is the baby blue tits raised in the box last year.
