The Barn echoed to the sound of the seventies yesterday when this year’s house music theme took us back to the age of flares, funny hairstyles and fantastic tunes.
The competition requires each house to produce a programme featuring a solo/duet, an instrumental number and both small and full-house choirs. The houses this year effectively covered a musically-varied decade; tracks chosen stretched from The Carpenters’ 1970 classic ‘Close to You’ (Fry’s ten singers contribution) to the haunting synth sounds of Joy Division’s ‘Love will tear us apart’ from 1979, performed by Austen as its instrumental contribution.
As always, the result was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon; competitive, supportive and light-hearted. Mrs Collin gave some constructive feedback on behalf of the judges and the final result was a win for Fry, with a total of 265 points. Well done to all involved.
