Year 12 student Maisie A is passionate about the environment. She writes:
“After Christmas I began working on the Eco-Schools project – a global programme engaging millions of children, improving their environmental awareness through a seven-step process. Stages 1-3 enable you to reach a bronze award, stages 4-6 lead to a silver award and on completing stage 7, you are awarded a green flag.
I have formed an eco-committee, which involves one or two pupils from every year group from Years 3 – 12; we have started meeting once every half-term to discuss how we could improve the school environmentally. I have also surveyed the school, outlining the areas which might be improved. Since doing this I have formed an action plan, with help from those on the eco-committee, and now am aiming to reach the bronze award. This term I will be trying to introduce some ideas to make the school more environmentally friendly; for example encouraging recycling and finding ways to become more energy efficient.”
