And the winner is ….

Last term, when he was in Year 1, Matthais came second in the Royal Norfolk Show Art competition and this week his prize arrived. Along with a cheque which will be spent on art materials for our Phase 2 pupils, he received this beautiful wooden plaque. Well done, Matthias!

Countryside Challenge

Following on from our success in the Food, Farming and Countryside Challenge at the Royal Norfolk Show, we would like to invest the prize money in another green project for the school.

If you have any ideas about an eco-project to inspire our pupils, please suggest it on our Facebook page or email marketing@hohs.co.uk. We would love to hear your ideas.

Pictured below is the winning entry.

HOHS Bird Club wins National Geographic Kids Magazine competition!

Back in January and February, after the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch,  our Bird Club entered a national competition that Amy T (Year 2) had found in her National Geographic Kids   magazine.  Mrs Bird was thrilled to hear last week that we have won the competition – and today our RSPB prizes have arrived!  Mrs Bird says she will save opening the parcels until the children are back in school next term….how exciting that will be!

Prizes from the RSPB have arrived in school today…but we will keep them as a surprise for the children to open next term!

Lots of our pupils participated in the Big Garden Birdwatch in January

We summarised our Birdwatch findings and sent them in to the National Geographic’s competition.

And we’re the winners!

School not closing for Royal Norfolk Show next week

Parents – just a reminder that the school is open as usual next week on both the Royal Norfolk Show days, Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th.

The school will be displaying at the show, though, so if you are visiting the Show, do drop in to our marquee and join us for refreshments and a chat. We are on Stand 5 on Third Drive (close to the Dereham gate). Do tell any of your friends who are going to the Show to drop in, too! We are also looking forward to seeing our art prizewinners receive their awards.

HOHS winners at the Royal Norfolk Show again!

We are proud to announce that, yet again, our pupils have scooped awards in the prestigious Royal Norfolk Show schools art competition, which this year received over 600 entries from across the county.

Congratulations to Matthias S (Year 1) and Isabella W (Year 6). Matthias was Runner-Up in Key Stage 1 and Izzy was Highly Commended in the Upper Key Stage Two category. The awards will be presented at 11.30 on Thursday 28th June in the Discovery Zone at the Show, where selected artwork from many Norfolk schools will be on display. Matthias won £25 for the school as runner up and the children also won two free adult tickets and a free car parking pass each, so that they and their parents can attend the awards ceremony.

• HOHS will be at the Royal Norfolk Show on 27th and 28th June – if you are going, do drop in for light refreshments and a chat! Find us on Stand 6 (near the Dereham Gate)

Mini garden competition winners!

Mrs Bird’s stall at our fete on Saturday was pretty as a picture adorned with the entries to the seaside-themed miniature garden competition. The gardens were ALL wonderful – well done to everyone who created these masterpieces!

Charlie McN (Year 1)  won first prize for a very inventive coastal scene complete with a surfer crashing in the waves, a small wood fire, fencing and real volcanic rock in a real mini-cacti setting.

Second prize went to Georgina E  (Year 5), for her lolly-stick Wendy house on stilts and fish in a twinkly pool;  third place was  jointly awarded to Agata C-M ( Year 2), with her own scented coral and a sunbather on the beach and Emma F-B (Year 6).

Runners up were Samaara Y (Reception), Harry T (Year 1)  and Charlotte and Chloe T (Years  1 and 4) .

Charlie tells Mrs Bird all about his miniature garden. Well done to Charlie for winning the top prize for his creation!
