Celebrating achievements at HOHS Speech Day

There was so much to celebrate at our Speech Day today – a lovely day and with perfect weather for the traditional family picnic on the lawns afterwards, too! A truly inspirational speech from guest Jo Cruse who used examples of young women who have become leaders in their field to speak to our girls about their futures ‘bursting with virtually limitless possibility’. She also spoke with candid honesty about the challenges and opportunities that accompany times of change – as she herself faces a crossroads. “I thought it was an amazing speech”, said Amy H (Year 11) “It was as if she was talking directly to me and understood my own thoughts and feelings, I was transfixed!”

Happy holidays, everyone!

Year 6 camp out tonight!

Nursery children watched Year 6 busily putting up their tents in the secure prep playground earlier, ready for their exciting annual camp out this evening. It’s an absolutely glorious afternoon for their barbecue and games in the gardens and we are sure they will have a fabulous time before getting under canvas for a good night’s sleep!

Reception assembly – the pictures!

Yesterday’s class assembly by our confident little Reception pupils was a delight, as already reported. Here, now, are some more pictures from the performance. You can also see some of their colourful artwork, including brightly painted Jack and the Beanstalk-inspired giants! Thank you once again to all the parents, grandparents and family members who came – we hope you all enjoyed the opportunity to see the children working together and share in some of their achievements. It is great to see their growing confidence in performing and learning lines!

Reception show us how beans grow!

What makes a little bean grow into a big, healthy plant? Our Reception pupils know – and they told us all about it in a wonderful assembly this morning. Look out for more photos and a report coming soon. Meanwhile, here is a lovely picture of the children on stage, showing how their confidence is growing, and showing off the giant paintings they had done!

Thank you to all the parents who came – we hope you enjoyed the opportunity to see the children working together and showcasing some of their achievements. Well done everyone!

Fabulous Fete!

So many visitors commented on the lovely, friendly atmosphere at our fete today – it really was a wonderful day and,  with the sun shining warmly for most of the time, the last-minute rain didn’t dampen our spirits! Thanks to the PA for organising such a great event, and thanks to all who came – we hope you all had a great time! We think the pictures say it all….

Fairies and Elves in Reception!

There are hundreds of opportunities for creative and imaginative play at HOHS. This week we spotted some of our Reception children enjoying a recently-acquired fairy and elf house, complete with miniature furniture and little characters. Perfect for all kinds of role-play adventures! The children were also keen to show off the beans they have started to grow. They have planted them in jam jars so that they can keep an eye on how well they grow. We will have another look, too, later in the term…

Wanted – holiday homes for Winnie and Bubbles!

A plea from our boarders: would any of our families like to step forward to offer a holiday home for their two guinea pigs over the half term break at the end of May or in the summer holidays? Winnie and Bubbles, our ‘piggies’,  are easy to look after, fun and quite cuddlesome! If you can help, please email boarding@hohs.co.uk as soon as possible.
