Gold D of E Practice – Days 1 and 2

Four girls, Maisie, Kelly, Tayla and Alice set off on their gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition on Friday, ready for a four day walk and four night camp.

On day one, they got up early and took just one hour to eat breakfast and pack their camping equipment away so they were ready to begin their day. They started walking under threatening skies at 8am. Although there were a few showers throughout the day it wasn’t until they had just finished putting up their tents at the campsite that the heavens opened with an almighty downpour interspersed by the odd rumble of thunder. Luckily it was only a short storm after which they were able to cook their tea outside.

Day two saw the girls getting up even earlier so they were out of their camp by 7am. They had some complicated navigation to overcome but managed it with aplomb. A long but pretty walk along Snake Path brought them up to the top of Kinder Scout. After lunch, they descended along William Clough which is the site of the mass trespass of 1932. This trespass allowed the ordinary people more access to walk on the land of the Peak District. The girls arrived at their campsite at 3pm and were able to rest before putting up their tents and cooking dinner – pasta, the staple diet of D of E!

More news of the expedition will be posted soon.

The future starts here…

Year 12 will be attending the  Norfolk Higher Education Exhibition at UEA tomorrow.  With UCAS experts, university and college representatives from over 100 institutions and industry professionals present, it gives the girls a great opportunity to learn about the many possibilities open to them after their A levels.  They will be able to attend seminars on how to choose a university and find out what life is like on a university campus as well as talk to experts about options other than going to university.

Watch this space for pictures and the girls’ feedback from the event!

Brilliant Hilltop trip for Years 3-6!

Our Years 3-6 pupils returned today from their fantastic residential trip away at Hilltop Outdoor Centre near Sheringham. They took part in so many exciting and challenging activities – from the vertical challenge and climbing wall to toasting marshmallows on camp fires they had made themselves.  On their last morning – today – after a big breakfast they tackled the zip wire (look at the video clip below to see why teamwork is important!) and archery.

Of course, a huge part of the fun was sleeping away from home – for some children this was the first time they had done this. The teachers report that everyone was very good and slept well, with no talking after lights out…but we expect there will be some tired children at bedtime tonight!

Look out for a gallery with more pictures on the blog next week.

Years 1-6 had a fantastic time on a warm and sunny day at the Norfolk Showground yesterday for The Big Sing! We were there nice and early and were given the very front row space. There were more than 9,000 pupils and teachers there from lots of schools so we were lucky to be so close to the stage!

Enjoy the gallery for pictures and the unfolding story in captions…

And today we saw a picture of ourselves in the papers!
