Year 9 textiles

Last half term our Year 9 girls enjoyed a brief introduction to garment making with Mrs Ling and produced these wrap-over skirts. They have been surprised how important the key skills of accuracy and attention to detail are on even a simple shape.

Little workers on Open Morning!

We can’t resist sharing these pictures from last Saturday’s Open Morning….

In the first image, some of our Year 2 pupils are demonstrating their creative skills for visitors to admire, while the rest show Year 1’s little Van Goghs hard at work. The children have been studying the life and work of the famous French Impressionist and have been really enthusiastic about his colourful sunflowers!

GCSE art

Miss Coughlan took these pictures while our Year 11 GCSE art pupils were absorbed in their work recently. The standard of art at HOHS is always high and we wish the girls every success in the practical art exams they have just completed.

A level textiles work featured in catalogue

A striking A Level textiles piece by 2016 leaver Olivia Burrows has been selected, with just a handful of others nationally, to appear in the new edition of a major educational supplies
catalogue (Heart Educational), winning the school a £100 voucher to spend on textiles resources. Teacher Mrs Ling is pictured below left.

Colourful GCSE textile creations

Our GCSE design and technology textiles pupils have just finished their final garment designs – and we think they are fabulous! The brief was to design something that was either Asian-influenced or used recycled textiles.  Here are Kelly and Maisie with their dresses.

Creative seaside cushions

Year 8 have been busy in their textiles lessons using decorative techniques to make beach-themed cushions. These include resist-dye methods  (tie-dye and batik), embellishing, appliqué and fancy machine stitches.  They should be very proud of the results!
