Volunteers needed for the Norwich junior parkrun

PrintDear Norwich Volunteers,

We are aiming to launch the Norwich junior parkrun at Eaton Park in early 2015. Junior parkruns are proving to be a great success round the country and I am sure that will also be the case here in Norfolk.

Active Norfolk have been very supportive and have agreed in principle to provide start-up funding, subject to various standard conditions being met. And Norwich City Council have now given their approval for the use of Eaton Park.

The main features of junior parkrun are 2k not 5k open to 4 to 14 year olds always Sunday mornings not Saturday mornings. It will be a 9am start in Eaton Park to avoid the later football rush full child protection procedures in place sufficient marshals so that all runners are in sight at anytime.2948189We now need to assemble a team of volunteers! I am coordinating this aspect and so please reply to me at andrewghlane@gmail.com – rather than to the usual Norwich parkrun email address – if you are interested or have any questions.

The experience of other junior parkruns such as Cambridge is that most of the volunteers are drawn from parents of junior parkrunners. So please forward this to anyone else you think might want to get involved, including people at local schools.

The process for results etc is the same as at the Saturday parkrun. We will be looking to recruit a team of about six run directors (to rotate the tasks) and we will provide full training in all aspects. We would like to get as large a volunteer group as possible.

I look forward to hearing from you if you are interested.

Thank you.
