Darci’s prize specimen!

Darci (Year 9) was recently shortlisted for the The Nancy Rothwell Award, a national award scheme celebrating specimen drawing in schools and highlighting the benefits of combining  art and science. Darci’s botanical drawing depicted a rose with all its different parts.  You can see it on the Nancy Rothwell pinterest board here, along with other shortlisted entries.

Congratulations to Darci and the other Year 9 girls who entered – the work is on display in school, outside Mrs Collins’ office.

A smack of Jellyfish by Year 5

Year 5 pupils created this colourful ‘smack’ of jellyfish in art last term.

  • Did you know that jellyfish…

… can be bigger than a human, while others are as small as a pinhead?
… are eaten by people in some countries?
… have been on Earth for millions of years, even before dinosaurs?
… have no brain but some kinds have eyes?
… are mainly made up of water and protein?
… and that a group of jellyfish is called a ‘smack’?

GCSE art

Miss Coughlan took these pictures while our Year 11 GCSE art pupils were absorbed in their work recently. The standard of art at HOHS is always high and we wish the girls every success in the practical art exams they have just completed.

Year 6 into Year 7

Entrance and scholarship exams were in full swing here today for many prospective Year 7 pupils, both from our current Year 6 and external candidates. The children had individual interviews with the Headmaster and Deputy Head, along with assessments in maths, English and their specialist subject for those applying for a scholarship in either sport, music, art or an academic subject.  We hope everyone had a good and enjoyable day; results will be sent to parents as soon as possible. Good luck to all!

If you know of anyone else who would like to join us for senior school, please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible as places in this year group for September are filling fast and are limited.Print

Year 6 all tied up!

Year 6 pupils discovered an ingenious way to  fasten the tricky ties on the back of their art overalls all together this week – Ms Mobbs thought that had to be worth a photo!

Snow one day and spring the next!

Pupils from Year 3 got busy during our open morning on Saturday creating cards and designing jars for their flower arrangements. And who were they for? Mummy, of course, just in time for Mothering Sunday!

Paintings and poems can be seen in the Year 3 classroom, which is looking very colourful and rather like springtime despite the flurry of snow we had this morning – we hope you like them!
