Rainbows in Reception

This week, Reception Class presented an assembly all about the work they have been doing this term. They have been learning about water and told us all about rainbows, sang a song, displayed their beautiful rainbow mobiles and told us about rainbow fish. It was a wonderfully colourful and informative assembly enjoyed by all.

What was it like to be a World War II evacuee? Year 6 know…

This morning’s assembly from Year 6 may have hit The Barn a few weeks later than scheduled owing to the snow last term – but what a great performance it was! The theme was inspired by the children’s recent history topic on Britain in World War II war and by their recent exciting and memorable visit to the Time and Tide Museum. It focused on children evacuated from the city during World War II. Pillowcase bags and gas mask boxes in hand, Year 6 became brave little city children, off on a train to escape the horrors of air raids and live with kind strangers. They also marched as soldiers… and they sang us a song about evacuees.  As Lydia’s mother said, “It was a really wonderful assembly: so moving, and so well performed, the children did it all so well, including lovely singing.”

Well done, Year 6; and thank you to all the families who came to see the children perform.

Nursery Assembly

This week, we were treated to a wonderful assembly by our Nursery pupils. The theme of the assembly was the dinosaurs and the children dressed as both dinosaurs and intrepid explorers. The children told us lots of important information about dinosaurs and also sang some beautiful songs in front of a packed and appreciative audience!

Year 6 Evacuees

Yesterday, Year 6 performed the first Prep class assembly of the year. They dressed up as evacuees, pillowcase bag and gas mask box in hand, and reminded us of the bravery of children during World War II. Inside each bag, they carried a special possession to remind them of home and many well-loved soft toys made their stage debut!

Thank you to the parents who attended the assembly.

An extra special assembly

On the last day of term the Prep School held one final assembly to say goodbye and thank you to five very special members of staff.

Mrs Thorman, Mrs Halford, Mrs Hall, Mrs Borrer and Mr Borrer were all given a sticker by Mr Peace (as is the custom in assembly!) and then presented with gifts, including a wonderful book filled with self-portraits drawn by each child, from Nursery through to Year 6.

Mr Borrer also received a football themed card and a Brazuca 2014 World Cup football signed by all the children, as a thank you for the hard work he has put in with the Prep School football team and the after school clubs.
