Banham Zoo

Earlier in March, Years 1 & 2 visited Banham Zoo. The children looked at the differences between animals from different continents and learned how to identify whether they were carnivorous, herbivorous or omnivorous. The picture below shows the children in the sloth enclosure and, above our heads, we were very lucky to see the sloths climbing and eating fruit – a very rare sight! For more photos, please see our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/HethersettOldHallSchool/

Nursery and Reception Trip to Banham Zoo

On Monday 4th July, the Nursery and Reception classes went to Banham Zoo.  To enhance our topic this half term, we had an educational talk on minibeasts by one of the Banham Zoo educators.  We were able to get hands on with a number of creatures, including millipedes, giant snails and even a snake.  We had a wonderful time and managed to squeeze in a ride on the train too. Too see more photos from the day, please click here.

Boarders at Banham!

banhamLast Saturday our boarders decided to complete the hat trick of zoos in East Anglia and visited Banham.  The zoo had cunningly put the snow leopards and tigers on the far side of the zoo, which meant we had no choice but to walk through the Farm Barn and play with the baby goats, rabbits and guinea pigs…in fact we had no choice but to spend a long time in there just to make sure we really had patted all the animals!  The girls were rewarded for the effort of walking across the zoo as the tigers came out and the snow leopards snuggled up to the glass and put their paws up. The monkeys were highly amusing as they decided an audience was just what they needed for the argument they had over some fruit! The walk into the giraffe enclosure was fantastic as it is all ramped and so you are on eye level with the animals…we never realised what huge eyes they have!

Hissing cockroachs and giant snails

Our Nursery and Reception pupils enjoyed seeing giraffes, meekats and a penguin or two when they recently took a trip to Banham Zoo.

During a visit to the Reptiles & Invertebrates area they were able to look at and touch a variety of animal and reptile skins. A few of our bravest girls and boys even volunteered to hold some of the insects on display, including a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach and a Giant African Snail. We hope these pupils remembered to wash their hands before eating their packed lunch!
