And the winners were…

The last day of term saw our annual, fiercely-contested House Shout singing competition, with the three houses – with pupils from Years 3-13 participating – each choosing a Christmas song to perform to a discerning panel of judges (Mr Peace, Mr Crump and Mrs Collin) and enthusiastic audience of pupils and staff.

This year Austen narrowly triumphed with their spirited rendition of I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day,  complete with enthusiastically executed choreography.  Other awards of the afternoon went to Saffron (Year 7) for winning the Best Christmas Jumper competition, Year 6 for best decorated Prep classroom and Year 9 for best decorated Senior classroom.

The House Shout followed hot on the heels of the traditional Sixth Form Panto, about which more will be related here later (oh yes it will!).

Mr Crump presents Austen’s Sixth Formers Paisley and Isabel with the House Shout prize.

Austen’s rendition of I wish it Could be Christmas Every Day had the wining formula!

And the winners are…

The last day of term saw our annual, fiercely-contested inter-house quiz take place in the Barn, followed after lunch by the Sixth Form panto and House Shout.  For the latter, the three houses – with pupils from Years 3-13 participating – choose a Christmas song to perform to a discerning panel of judges (Mr Peace, Mr Crump and Mrs Collin) and enthusiastic audience of pupils and staff.

This year Austen narrowly triumphed in the quiz, beating Fry by three points, while Ryder unanimously took the House Shout prize with their spirited rendition of Justin Bieber’s Mistletoe, complete with vigorously executed choreography!

You can see pictures of the Sixth Form panto on yesterday’s blog post.

House shout…Ryder wins!

The final event of the Christmas term, the House Shout, was highly competitive and great fun! Each house had chosen a piece to perform and organised the staging themselves, with pupils from Years 3-13 participating. Judged by Mr Crump, Mr Peace and Mrs Collin, it was a very close-run competition but in the end Ryder triumphed with their energetic, upbeat performance.

Were you a boarder between 1980 -1983?

Hethersett Old Hall School is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and we have been busy tracking down our old girls and members of staff.

We have been thrilled by the response and the fond memories that so many people have!

Mrs Edna Davies is one former member of staff who has been in contact. Mrs Davies was Head of Religious Studies and our Senior Housemistress between 1978 – 1983. During her time here she started an unusual project of collecting the signatures of our departing boarders on a tablecloth.

She re-discovered the tablecloth in a cupboard a couple of years ago and started to embroider over the girls’ signatures to create a permanent memento. She also painstakingly hand-stitched the old school logo in the centre of the tablecloth which depicts a bird. On hearing of our celebrations she has had the tablecloth professionally framed and has just presented us with this charming piece of history!

We are thrilled to receive it and would like to thank Mrs Davies for such a lovely keepsake.  It is currently hanging proudly on display in the Quiet Room and we will find a more permanent home after our 75th celebrations in the summer.

If you were a boarder between 1980-1983 and are planning to join us for our 75th anniversary celebrations on Sunday 16th June, make sure you take a look!
