Christingle Service

This afternoon our Upper Prep and Lower Prep pupils took part in one of our favourite festivities, our Christingle Service at St Remigius Church. The Reverend Derek McClean led the service, with the children singing songs, making musical contributions and leading the prayers. Once the Christingles were lit and the lights were turned off, everyone circled the church and sang Away in a Manger. It was a wonderful start to the Christmas celebrations. Thank you to all the parents and families who came to share the service, and for your generous contributions for The Children’s Society. If you have any lovely pictures from the Christingle, please send them to marketing@hohs.co.uk.

And the winners were…

The last day of term saw our annual, fiercely-contested House Shout singing competition, with the three houses – with pupils from Years 3-13 participating – each choosing a Christmas song to perform to a discerning panel of judges (Mr Peace, Mr Crump and Mrs Collin) and enthusiastic audience of pupils and staff.

This year Austen narrowly triumphed with their spirited rendition of I Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day,  complete with enthusiastically executed choreography.  Other awards of the afternoon went to Saffron (Year 7) for winning the Best Christmas Jumper competition, Year 6 for best decorated Prep classroom and Year 9 for best decorated Senior classroom.

The House Shout followed hot on the heels of the traditional Sixth Form Panto, about which more will be related here later (oh yes it will!).

Mr Crump presents Austen’s Sixth Formers Paisley and Isabel with the House Shout prize.

Austen’s rendition of I wish it Could be Christmas Every Day had the wining formula!

The Four Schools Carol Concert

On Monday evening, our flute ensemble performed Carol of the Bells by Leontovych at the annual Four Schools Carol Concert held at St Remigius Church.

This is an event that brings together the four schools in Hethersett, each school contributing a musical item and a poem; the head teacher of each school also presents a reading. Our flutes sounded
truly beautiful in the wonderful acoustics of the church, the harmonies ringing out.

Deputy Head girl Charlie Harding read Christmas Carol, a lovely poem by Felicia Hemans, and Mr Crump read Ben Jonson’s A Hymn on the Nativity of My Saviour.

Remember: this week we have our own school carol service in St Remigius, on Thursday 14th at 2.15pm. All welcome!
