Why our pupils aren’t to be messed with

HOHS pupils have been learning Taekwondo this term.

This Korean martial art combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, and in some cases meditation and philosophy. In Korean, tae (태, ) means “to strike or break with foot”; kwon (권, ) means “to strike or break with fist”; and do (도, ) means “way”, “method”, or “path”.

Thus, taekwondo may be loosely translated as “the way of the hand and the foot.”

Messing around on the river

Kayaking this term has been a right splash. The girls have enjoyed going to Whitlingham every Wednesday to paddle in K1s and K2s.  Some of the girls have improved their speed across the water, other girls have improved their swimming ability by capsizing.

A huge amount of fun has been had by all and we look forward to starting again in the Easter.

Cardio Tennis is in full swing

Despite the nip in the air and a layer of frost covering HOHS this morning, the energetic Cardio Tennis ladies were still out in full swing. We’re always on the lookout for new players, so why not come along and join us on Wednesday mornings. A warm track suit is advisable at this time of year, but the bright red gloves are entirely optional!
