Prep School pupil puts pen to paper

The recent snowfall has meant some inevitable disruptions, and a few of our pupils have had difficulty travelling to school.

For Rosie Ling in 2W, this didn’t mean a day in front of the television at home however! She set herself a task to write a poem inspired by the weather.

Snow Day

Crickle, crackle under my feet
The fields are covered with a white sheet

Showers of snowflakes fall to the ground
Making silent noise as they fall all around

Glistening tree tops above my head
Makes me happy and jump out of bed!

Animal footprints make trails in the snow
A Narnia world that makes my heart glow.

“Feed the birds…”

Green Club has been concerned about our feathered friends during this snowy weather and in out first meeting of the year we have produced a variety of different bird feeders.

Some of the feeders are made from fruits, others recycled bottles and some were simply crafted into shape. We hope they prove helpful to the birds during this cold time of year.

Thanks to the kitchen for providing additional tasty treats!

In true HOHS Spirit, Green Club has shared some of their home made bird feeders with the Year 3 students in Bird Club.

Hopefully they will get lots of attention and encourage even more feathered friends to visit the school. Especially with the big bird count being so soon.Bird-feeders

Following a cold and rather disrupted week at school, we hope all our pupils, parents and staff are enjoying themselves in the snow this weekend.

For those of you getting creative and building snowman in the back garden,  please do send  in photos as we’d love to put them up on the blog.

Don’t forget to wrap up warm

According to the weather men we’re in for a bit of a cold snap here in the East of England, so don’t forget to dig out your hat, scarf, tights and gloves and wrap up warm.2013-01-14 09.10.43If the aforementioned items have gone walkabout or they’re simply too small, the uniform shop has lots in stock, including plenty of second-hand scarves. Bird Club Update

There have been several new lunchtime clubs launched this term in the Prep School, which have proved very popular with out pupils. Bird Club, run by our Year 3 teacher Mrs Bird (honestly!) has proved to be a big hit with our nature-loving boys and girls.

Mrs Bird’s ‘tweet’:

“Bird Club’s fifth week was marked by the unveiling of a splendid bird table, two window feeders and two hanging feeders kindly funded by the Parents’ Association. Our young bird watchers have had great fun using binoculars, identifying birds and keeping a log of birds spotted in their gardens, as well as looking out for nests and collecting a variety of feathers and even some skulls!

Our next project after half-term will be designing bird boxes in readiness for the nesting season in the spring time.

Meanwhile, as the weather becomes colder, don’t forget to feed your garden birds with nuts, seeds, cheese and bacon rind. I would love to see photos or drawings of birds you have spotted, so please bring them into school for our Bird Club display outside the Year 3 classroom.”
