Seniors entertain at Spring Recital

On Wednesday evening, parents, staff and friends were treated to a programme of accomplished solo, choral and orchestral pieces from some of our senior pupils. From Faure to Take That and from Strauss to a Spoonful of Sugar, the varied programme had plenty to please and gave pupils an opportunity to showcase their musical talents.

Upper Prep music festival

Thank you to all the parents and friends who came to see our Upper Prep pupils perform a selection of musical items in The Barn yesterday. Some of the children have been learning their instruments for a year or more, while others are just beginners, and the festival gives all those who wish to perform the opportunity to show what they have been practising in their music lessons. The audience experienced a varied programme of solo and ensemble pieces including some delightful contributions from the Upper Prep choir directed by Mrs Richards, before joining the children for refreshments.

Senior Spring Recital: Mrs Greene’s review

Earlier we reported briefly on Wednesday’s Senior Spring Recital. Mrs Greene has added this more detailed appreciative review:

This year’s Spring Recital showcased some of the school’s musical talents and I would like to offer my congratulations to all our performers for their courage in sharing their talents at the concert. I know it can be a little scary in front of an audience!

As usual, the orchestra kicked things off with two pieces, St Anthony Chorale by Brahms and the well-known Sousa Marches (memories of Monty Python). Thanks are due to Mrs Jaggard for all her work with the orchestra. They may be few in number but the members have shown eagerness and commitment.

Thank you to Mrs Jaggard, also, for accompanying most of our soloists. Four of our flautists played a solo or a duet – a blues number from Isabel, an athletic, classical piece from Emilia, a familiar duet from Alice, and finally, a beautiful piece of Bach from Alia. All four played with a beautiful tone; thanks also to Miss Ellis for her help.

Our solo singers, Felicity, Francesca and Charlotte, entertained us with songs ranging from an Easter hymn and a song from the musicals, to a recent chart song. Special mention must go to Charlotte Harding (Charlie) for stepping in to accompany the two older girls in their performances. She also accompanied the choir in their version of the Panic at the disco song This is gospel. This term, the choir chose and arranged this song themselves. They are becoming more confident singing harmonies in three parts.

Suzie and Cristina performed on the piano for us; Cristina performed her solo from memory (I couldn’t do that) and Suzie introduced us to the melodies of Korean K-Pop. Sophie showed how much her violin playing has improved over the years, performing a technically challenging piece. Anna, too, has shown so much progress over the times we have heard her play her harp. Look out for her larger harp at Speech Day.

Seniors entertain at Spring Recital

On Wednesday evening, parents, staff and friends were treated to a programme of accomplished solo, choral and orchestral pieces from some of our senior pupils. From Bach to K-Pop and from Spirituals to Somewhere over the Rainbow, the varied programme had plenty to please and gave pupils an opportunity to showcase their musical talents.

Pictured here are the orchestra,  Emilia (Year 8) who played a solo flute piece by Cimarosa, and Felicity  (Year 7), who sang a lovely arrangement of the traditional French song Love is Come Again.

Well done to all who performed, and thank you to Mrs Greene for organising the evening and to the parents and friends who came along – we hope you enjoyed the performances.
