Stone Age assembly for Year 5

An audience of family members and the other Prep School classes enjoyed an imaginatively-performed and action-packed assembly from Year 5 this morning. The children showcased some of the work they have been doing for their Stone Age history studies, including making models of Stonehenge, recreating cave paintings and composing a poem about our distant ancestors. They displayed excellent knowledge of all aspects of life in the Stone Ages, from hunting to housing, tool-making to clothing. Afterwards,  the children shared some moments with their proud families. Well done, Year 5, and thanks to the family members who came to watch!

Love of Languages

Nursery and Reception pupils joined forces this afternoon for a French lesson with Mrs Jones. They are learning numbers, colours and simple greetings, and were concentrating hard and confidently singing songs in French when the roving camera popped in to see!

Frozen Friday!

It was actually a very mild and sunny day yesterday, but it was definitely Frozen in the languages room… Frozen, the movie, that is! Our new Foreign Film club is proving a success, with over a dozen pupils joining in this week to see the ever-popular Disney classic in French with English sub-titles. With the words conveniently printed out by Mrs Evers-Jones, the children all had a go at singing  “Libérée, délivrée” (Let it Go)!

Foreign Film Fridays!

Fancy watching Frozen in French? Mrs Barber and Mrs Evers-Jones are starting a new foreign languages film club on Friday lunchtimes from this Friday, 27th January. Anyone from Year 3 upwards is welcome to join us in L1, where we will be watching films, including Disney favourites, in French or Spanish with English subtitles.  The first week will feature the French version of Frozen – you will have the chance to learn some of the songs in French, too.

Click on the picture to see and hear “Let it Go” in French, with the lyrics on screen so that you can have a go at singing along…“Libérée, délivrée”!

Stone Age buildings and dinosaur bones

As part of their Stone Age history studies Year 5 have started to design and construct their own Stone Age houses, using a variety of materials they sourced from the woods. Any budding young palaeontologists please note: the bones littering the gardens of these houses were created in the DT room, so please don’t start digging for dinosaur skeletons around the school grounds – Mr Young would not be very pleased! When the houses are finished they will look like the one in the bottom picture.

Stone Age assembly for Year 5

Earlier this week Year 5 presented a very interesting and imaginatively-performed assembly to their parents, family members and the other Prep School classes. The assembly showcased some of the work the children have been doing as part of their Stone Age history studies. Miss Hopwood says, “We have been learning about Ancient Britain: the Stone Age…Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras and then the Bronze Age. It is a difficult and broad-ranging topic but the children have been very enthusiastic about it. Ruby and Poppy have even started a ‘Young Archaeologist’s’ club and all of the class have joined! They go out at break and lunch and look for flint and fossils in the woods. Ruby and Poppy have even designed application forms for the club and you have to sign a contract to join.”

Well done Year 5, thank you for an excellent assembly and thank you to all the parents and family members who came to watch.
