Who is behind the mask?

Pupils in Years 8 and 9 have been working with full masks in drama, having completed a term’s work on Commedia Dell’Arte half-masks. Using atmospheric music the girls are experimenting with physical and visual comedy, with each group exploring its own ideas and concepts.

Spellbinding drama in Years 5 and 6

This half term in drama lessons Years 5 and 6 are working on the theme of ‘Prophecies’.  We are reading extracts from Macbeth and creating an atmosphere in which to create imaginary spells.

The children have used music, percussion instruments and dance all to dramatic effect. How scaryingly convincing they all were this week in role- play!

Congratulations to Chloe!

Chloe  (Year 2) entered two LAMDA exams over the summer, one a solo Entry Level Award in Communication, for which she got a distinction scoring 99/100; and the second  a group effort for which her group scored 98/100. She received the results a couple of weeks ago and was super pleased!

Year 6 into Year 7

Entrance and scholarship exams were in full swing here today for many prospective Year 7 pupils, both from our current Year 6 and external candidates. The children had individual interviews with the Headmaster and Deputy Head, along with assessments in maths, English and their specialist subject for those applying for a scholarship in either sport, music, art or an academic subject.  We hope everyone had a good and enjoyable day; results will be sent to parents as soon as possible. Good luck to all!

If you know of anyone else who would like to join us for senior school, please encourage them to contact us as soon as possible as places in this year group for September are filling fast and are limited.Print

Calling HOHS Senior Thespians and stage managers…

The new Senior Production is under starters’ orders! This year it will be Daisy Pulls it Off, an adaptation of a classic girls’ school story set in an arguably more innocent age and full of hilarious characters and splendid scrapes. Expect sly wit and a big heart! The production  will be performed at the Norwich Puppet Theatre in March 2016.

Thank you to everyone who came along for the workshop auditions last Tuesday –  but it is not too late if you would like to be cast!  Another workshop audition will take place tomorrow –  Tuesday 21st – at 4.00pm, either in the Barn or in Room 14 – to be announced. Anyone from Year 7 and above is welcome. I am also looking for  stage management members, so if being back stage appeals, please come along and join the fun!  Jenny Richards
