Sixth Form Information Evening

This is a reminder that Year 11 girls and their parents are invited to come along to our Sixth Form Information Evening tonight, from 6.30pm – 8.00pm.

The evening provides the perfect opportunity to meet and discuss A Level options with our subject teachers, as well as learn more about life in the Sixth Form, our enrichment programme and extra-curricular opportunities and how we assist girls with their university applications. Further information will also be available about our Sixth Form scholarships that take place in November 2015.

We look forward to seeing you there.

HOHS tops exam tables for GSCE results

We are delighted to see Hethersett Old Hall topping the local schools’ exams tables for 2014.

Although league tables do give an indication of examination passes, they are not a fair guide to a school’s real achievements. In a school with international students such as ours, no allowance is given to those pupils whose first language is not English and who will therefore take a ‘second language’ English IGCSE which is not counted in the tables, which only record pupils who obtain grades in ‘first language’ qualifications.

Also, the size of the cohort matters – in a smaller school, a couple of pupils missing key examinations through illness have a disproportionate effect on percentages. What really matters, I think, is how much pupils grow and develop, gaining confidence and life skills, over the course of their education – league tables don’t measure this!

Calling next year’s Sixth Formers!

Our Sixth Form Information Evening, which takes place this evening, from 6.30pm – 8.00pm, is not just for our current Year 11 pupils – we warmly welcome new girls, too. If you have friends at other schools who are thinking of changing schools for A Level, please do invite them to come and see how HOHS can benefit them.

We are very proud of our track record for helping every one of our girls to achieve the results they need for their first choice university, year on year. The girls also benefit  from our excellent extracurricular programme, designed to help them develop their confidence and abilities for a successful future.
