News from the HOHS gardens

Over the summer, our beautiful gardens provided a wonderful, colourful display to staff and summer visitors, with Mr Young working hard throughout the holidays to keep everything tidy! This week, apples from our orchard have found their way into the fruit bowl in the dining room, and there is plenty of weeding, dead-heading and tidying to be done as autumn approaches.

No Valentine’s roses but….

…with the sun shining, our grounds still have plenty to offer. The first signs of spring are in evidence today, with these lovely snowdrops, and a few daffodils in bud. Unless the florist arrives with a bunch, we’ll have to wait a few months for roses, though. Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Double rainbow over Hethersett Old Hall School

This lovely photo was captured by one of our maintenance team, who was outside with his phone camera at just the right moment on Monday. The scaffolding we have in place at the moment can’t detract from the beauty of this image! We are pleased to report that the renovation work is going very well and we’ll soon be restored to our normal glory…

White lines and wide horizons

It may be the holidays, but care and attention is still being devoted to the 16 acres of lawns, gardens, orchards, sports fields and woods where our pupils learn, play and grow!

Here is part of our sports field, showing off the new white lines we’ve had laid down ready for the track and field events… plus a few other views snapped at the same time.

While we’re at it, you might like to see more photos of the beautiful grounds at Hethersett Old Hall School.

Spring is here!

Two signs that spring has definitely arrived: some much-needed colour around school and seeing our pupils making the most of the grounds during After-School Club.

Boarders go for tea with the Queen

When living in the very royal county of Norfolk, one would expect to rub shoulders with royalty from time to time. So a couple of weekends ago our boarders set off on a visit to Sandringham House to see if the Queen were free for tea and afternoon cakes.

Sadly it was not to be; she was busy that day, as were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in his army fatigues. So with all hopes of cucumber sandwiches and walks with the corgis dashed, the boarders spent their time exploring the beautiful gardens and grounds instead.

Perhaps next time they visit a little more advanced notice might do the trick…
