Happy Mothering Sunday to all our HOHS families

We would like to wish everyone a very happy Mothers’ Day – or Mothering Sunday as it is known in the church calendar.  This is a day to say a big thank you to  the mothers, grandmothers and other loving caregivers who look after us so well. This week in school, children were excitedly making beautiful cards and hand-made gifts to help celebrate. Enjoy!

Year 5 with some wise old birds

Enjoy these stunning mixed media images by Year 5 pupils, who took inspiration from the British illustrator and artist Mark Hearld’s night-time scenes of owls in the countryside. Working in the senior art room with head of art Miss Coughlan, they used mixed media, including printed leaves, bark, twigs, coloured ink and paint. We think the results are magical!

Happy Mothering Sunday!

We would like to wish every one a very happy Mothers’ Day!

Year 1 made beautiful 3-D daffodil pictures and pretty bookmarks with Mrs Bird for their mums – and colourful flower decorations in their French lessons with Miss Hopwood. The children coloured in the petals on one side and labelled them in French, and wrote sweet messages (also in French!) on the other side.

Eva, Maisy and Sophie (Year 5) are in the second picture, too, as they helped stick the flowers together and put ribbons on them. Thank you, girls!

A message for our mums..

Pupils at HOHS have something they’d like to say:

Thank you to our mums for the many hours spent caring for us, cooking meals, ironing uniform and getting us to school on time. Thank you for watching sports matches in the cold, the forgotten items you rush home to collect and the smelly bags you dig through for dirty clothes. Thank you for the helpful nagging over homework to be done, the pep talks before exams and the encouragement when they’re done.

And one final thank you – for those long, hard 9 months it took to bring us into this world.

Happy Mother’s Day!
