Worms in the Nursery (the good kind!)

Our topic in the Nursery this term is Mini Beasts. Last week the children got hands-on with earthworms and built their own wormery. It was a lot of fun and they learned plenty of fascinating worm facts, too!

Your snow adventures!

Despite school being closed today, it seems many pupils were still keen to be creative, active and outdoors! Thank you to those who sent us these lovely pictures.

Please watch this space for news of whether we are able to open tomorrow.  Your safety is our priority and we are keeping a close eye on the weather forecast before making a decision later today.

Fun in the snow!

It’s been wonderful to see the children (and certain members of staff!) enjoying the snow here today.  Our gardens and grounds look stunning. So much space…and bright blue skies as well… Click on the first gallery picture and see some snowy smiles!

Bunty Bear with Daisy at The Lion King

Daisy (Year 1) took Bunty, one of the HOHS bears, to see the Lion King last Sunday!  Bunty had to compete with a Simba teddy after the show though! Thank you to Daisy’s mum for sending us these lovely pictures.

Little monkeys in the Nursery!

As part of our jungle topic, the Nursery children have been looking at monkeys this week. We have moved like monkeys, danced like monkeys and every child has painted a monkey to hang around the classroom!

Everyone has made their own monkey to hang around the classroom

Some monkeys like to hang upside down!

Busy Nursery days!

Everyone has been quickly getting back into the swing of school in our Nursery classes this week, and on Thursday the roving camera spotted children doing all kinds of
interesting things…identifying animals, role-playing, sponge painting, cutting-out-and-sticking and playing imaginative games together.

More snow fun!

There may not have been huge drifts, but there was enough of the white stuff falling at lunchtime today for some seriously snowy fun!

Watch out – there are pirates about!

A big thank you to all the  parents, grandparents and friends who came to see our Nursery pupils perform their fantastic pirate-themed assembly this morning and share some proud moments with them afterwards. The children presented some of their recent project work, including some beautiful artwork and a very catchy counting song featuring the captain of a pirate ship! They all looked amazing in their pirate outfits. There are more photos to come over the next day or so. Watch this space!

Barnaby Bear gets lost…and found!

Polly (Year 1) had a very exciting ski trip to Switzerland at half term. She took HOHS’s very own Barnaby Bear with her (we all know he likes to travel and see different places to tell us about!) But Barnaby got left on the plane home from Geneva by mistake, leaving Polly very upset. Luckily, the adventurous bear turned up at Polly’s grandparents’ house complete with a new t-shirt and a label tied around his neck explaining that he had been found and posted back. So everyone was happy!

Here is Polly (below left) with Barnaby and her friend Sophia (also Year 1) , who is holding the fantastic diary Polly’s mother helped her to create while they were on holiday. You can see Barnaby looking a bit sorry for himself with his label on!
