Speech Day picnic just beats the rain!

Today we celebrated arguably the biggest day of the school year  – Speech Day! A full report will be posted soon, but in the meantime, we wanted to share some photos of families enjoying their picnic lunches after the formal part of the day was completed.  Anyone who had hoped for a leisurely lunch in the sunshine over a couple of hours was disappointed though –  barely had the last sandwich been consumed than the skies opened, the thunder roared…and the marquee came into its own again!

We hope all the families who came to share this landmark event enjoyed the day.

Thank you to everyone who came to our annual Speech Day. Following a catch up on the busy school year, some farewell speeches, the presentation of many prizes and a thought-provoking speech from Jennifer Lonsdale OBE, co-founder of the Environmental Investigation Agency, it was time to make the most of the sunshine and enjoy a picnic and afternoon tea out on the lawn.

More photos from the day will be posted soon.

Speech Day 2014

Last Tuesday pupils, staff, Governors, parents and friends came together for Speech Day to mark the end of yet another busy school year.

Following a catch-up on all areas of school life, the presentation of countless prizes, a rendition of ‘Green Eyes’ by Bridget and an inspirational speech from Sophia Warner, Great Britain Paralympic athlete, it was time for everyone to enjoy their picnic out on the lawn.

Predictably the weather decided not to play ball, and within half an hour of everybody setting out their rugs, chairs and hampers, the storm clouds had gathered and torrential rain had everybody running for cover!

Leavers Day (and teachers behaving badly)

Last Friday our Year 13 pupils dug out their old school uniforms for one last time and celebrated the start of their study leave with a picnic in the grounds.

Not wanting to miss out on the fun – or perhaps the chance to behave badly – some of the teachers also decided to try on the kilts, ties and caps for size. Clearly some of them hadn’t read up on the HOHS uniform dress and appearance regulations first..

See more photos from the day.

The sun comes out for Speech Day

For the most part this term the weather has been cold, grey and decidedly wet. There have been drenched sporting spectators, cancelled matches, soggy teddy bears and plenty of waterlogged wellies at the recent picnic concert. However, as if to celebrate the end of term, the summer finally decided to put in an appearance for Speech Day on the 4th July.

Following a catch up on the busy school year, some emotional farewell speeches, the presentation of countless prizes and an inspirational speech from The Venerable Jan McFarlane, Archdeacon of Norwich, it was finally time for everyone to make the most of the sunshine and enjoy a picnic and afternoon tea out on the lawn.
