13 years of D of E success at HOHS

badge-gold_1In the last 13 years, over 370 girls from HOHS have achieved bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, with 82 gaining the gold.

No fewer than thirteen of our sixth formers received their gold awards at the annual presentation at Sandringham last year – more than any other school within the Norfolk County Council area.

These are rigorous awards involving a variety of tough challenges and are valuable additions to girls’ CVs and UCAS applications.

Mrs Grove and other members of staff work tirelessly to make this a really rewarding part of the senior girls’ experience at HOHS.

Successful expedition for Gold D of E girls

Nine students and three staff braved the wilds of Norfolk for a one-day Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition in readiness for their trip to the Brecon Beacons.

Although most of the students had not tried D of E before, they were all game and soon realised the importance of bearings and following the route carefully.

Well done everybody.

Home safe and sound

I’m pleased to report that everyone got home safe and sound from the Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice yesterday. Aside from a few minor bumps, bruises and blisters, all girls survived the expedition unscathed. We had some amazing weather and sunshine during our stay in Wales, so it was a shame really to have to return to a rather grey Norfolk!

Congratulations girls you were a delight to take. As well as learning a great deal you also achieved some important new skills.

Make sure you keep yourselves fit, ready for our return to the Black Mountains in 4 weeks.

Mrs Grove

Update from the Brecon Beacons

Blue skies and sunshine all today, much hotter than yesterday. On top of the moors, accompanied by the occasional sheep and enjoying the skylark singing.  Photos of campsite and Olivia modelling her ‘special kit’!

Going for gold

brecon-in-uk

It was a cold and misty start for our Sixth Formers as they began their Gold Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition in the Brecon Beacons this morning.

Let’s hope they had a good breakfast before they set off because those backpacks sure do look heavy…DofE-Day-1mistDofE-Day-1
