World Book Day

Today is World Book Day and the Prep School children did a wonderful job dressing up to represent their favourite literary characters. Wally in his red and white striped jumper, although difficult to find, put in an appearance as did Harry, Hermione and even Moaning Myrtle. To see which characters you can spot in our gallery of photos, please click the following link.

The Dinosaur Hunt!

It has been an exciting half term for our Nursery pupils. They have learned lots of facts about dinosaurs, painted dinosaur pictures and presented an assembly. Best of all, they went on a dinosaur hunt, following a trail of dinosaur footprints which led them to a dinosaur egg! To see the video of their egg-hunting adventures, please visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/HethersettOldHallSchool/ (which is available to everyone even if you haven’t got your own Facebook account).

More Netball News!

On Friday 8th February, our U11 netball team played their second match of the season versus Norwich High School for Girls. Sadly the girls did not win, however they clearly improved upon their defensive skills as the game progressed with lots of dodging and interceptions later in the match. Great effort girls and a special well done to Cameron as it was her first ever netball match!

Lego Tokens

The Eastern Daily Press and Eastern Evening News will be printing tokens for schools to collect to exchange for Lego Education resources. Since Lego Club is one of the clubs offered to the children in our Prep School, we would like to ask you to bring any tokens you collect to Reception. The first tokens will be printed on Saturday 9th February and the final tokens on Friday 3rd May. Lego provides hands-on experiences for children to investigate science, technology, engineering and maths in a fun and engaging way so all tokens will be much appreciated.

Thank you

Inventive Ideas in Year 2

For their topic this half term, Year 2 have been learning all about ‘Incredible Inventions’. They have learnt about famous inventors such as Thomas Edison, The Wright Brothers and Alexander Graham Bell. They have also learnt how inventions have changed over time such as the development of music devices from the gramophone to the modern day iPod.

On Wednesday 6th February, Year 2 had an ‘inventions day’. The day began with a visit from a local inventor. April Nash works for Orchard Toys and she came to deliver a board games workshop. The children played some of the games she had invented before discussing what they liked about the games and what makes a good game. April then taught the children how to invent their own board games. The children had to think about a theme and include imaginative ideas such as going backwards or forwards spaces. The children produced some excellent game designs and will be writing instructions on how to play the game in their English lessons.

U9 Netball

Our youngest netball team played on Friday 1st February against Norwich High School for Girls. It was a fixture that was designed to improve attacking and defending play and also to allow the teachers to coach the girls as the game went along. I was very proud of our pupils because they listened carefully and applied what I’d asked to their performance. Great effort, well done!
