Year 4 soft touch!

Year 4 spent some careful hours in their craft lessons last half term making these beautiful cushions…we couldn’t show them before because they were being wrapped up for Christmas presents. We are sure the lucky recipients loved them!

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Year 1 really enjoyed their visit to the theatre last term to see Michael Rosen’s famous We’re Going on a Bear Hunt come to life. Now the children have been doing some excellent work with Mrs Bird to follow up on what they saw and heard.

They have been retelling the story in a drama session, remembering and checking the sequence of events and illustrating the action. Their work is now on display outside the Year 1 classroom – parents, do come and have a look!

Cambridge Botanical Gardens for Years 5 & 6

Last Thursday, Years 5 and 6 travelled to the Cambridge Botanical Gardens as part of their biomes and tropical rainforest topics in geography. We went into glasshouses, where we saw plants from different climates around the world: – cold, tropical, humid, hot and dry. The children were then able to look at and draw some carnivorous plants –  the ‘monkey cup’ and ‘Venus fly-trap’ were particularly popular! Miss Hopwood and Mr Peace then led the children on a nature hunt around the beautiful 16 acre gardens. It was a very enjoyable day!

Father Christmas, Reindeer and crafting at HOHS

This morning saw lots of smiles and fun as families came together in the Barn to do some Christmas-themed crafting together and chat to Father Christmas. Meanwhile, outside, two of his reindeer were ready to show us how much they like carrots! Thanks to our hardworking PA members for organising this – and for serving delicious mince pies, soup and other goodies, too!

Reception pupils at the top of the beanstalk!

Thank you to all the friends and families who came to see our Reception children present their class assembly this morning – didn’t they do well?

The children showed us what they have been learning this term about how things grow. They had listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and planted their own beans. Then they had done some creative writing about what they would find at the top of their beanstalks, from pink fairy castles to super heroes! We read the story about Jasper`s Beanstalk and painted beautiful, colourful pictures to re-tell the story.

The children told us how they have planted sunflower seeds and cress seeds and talked about the conditions needed for plants to grow – and how important it is to be PATIENT while you wait for this to happen!

After the assembly was finished the children stayed for a little while in the Barn to share the excitement with their families…
