Winning, Witty Whittington!

Pupils from Years 3 to 6 delighted a packed audience in The Barn this evening with their first  performance of our Upper Prep production, Dick Whittington: a Summer Pantomime.  We won’t say too much about the show here because there is a second performance on Thursday evening – but suffice to say, those parents who haven’t yet seen it are in for a treat! A full review will follow at the weekend.

Timelocked on The Keymaster

All pupils from Years 3 to 6 delighted two packed audiences in The Barn last week with their informative and sparkling adaption of Nick Perin’s  The Keymaster. As lead character, Emily G (Year 6) made a convincing transformation from boring supply teacher to a whacky time lord to take school children Skyla-Grace (Year 6), Ruby (Year 6), Maxim (Year 5) and Jennie (Year 5) on a magical journey through history.

Along the way pupils and time lord visited the Battle of Hastings, commented on as if it were the 1966 World Cup final in comic fashion by Toby and Alex C (Year 5). They also came across a Tudor doctor played to villainous dramatic effect by Sam (Year 5), and an 18th Century smuggling village full of idiots held together by landlord Eva (Year 5).

There were notable performances by Saffron and Ellie (Year 6) and Maisy (Year 5)  as feisty suffragettes on their march to parliament and Alex S (Year 5) as the police sergeant trying to stop them.

Leoni (Year 6), Amy  (Year 5) and Sophie (Year 5), in their portrayals of boss and workers evoked the feelings of the Industrial Revolution while Emma (Year 5) played a performance of a WW2 evacuee to melt any heart.

The children in Years 3 and 4 also took multiple parts in the drama and contributed enthusiastically to all the singing and dancing around the passage of time.

The show finished to heartfelt applause on both nights and Ms Mobbs would like to congratulate all the cast for their team spirit . I hope that each and every one of them is proud of themselves.

Keys to a magical Prep Production

This week rehearsals start in earnest for the Prep Department’s summer production – The Keymaster by Nick Perrin. The drama focuses on four children who are expecting a very boring history lesson…but instead find themselves transported back in time on a magical journey to learn about the events of 1066, Tudor times, 18th century smugglers, the Industrial Revolution, the Suffragettes and World War 2.  Then the children visit the future….

There is plenty of hard work as well as fun in store in the weeks ahead as pupils learn lines and  songs and work together in dance to bring the story to life.

The photo below shows Year 5 and 6 pupils but all the children have at  least one part to play.  There will be two performances, on  Tuesday  27th and Thursday 29th June at 7.00pm in The Barn so, parents, make a note in your diaries!

Another Sparkling Performance As The Curtain Falls On Fairyland!

All pupils in the Upper Prep Department gave another superb performance  of ‘ A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ on Thursday evening.

Drama, dance and song enchanted the delighted audience who as the evening drew to a close filled the Barn with beaming smiles and rapturous applause. The children should be very proud of themselves. Memories are made from moments like these.

Ms Mobbs would like to say another big ” well-done everybody” and wishes you all a very happy half-term!

Review from Mrs Collin:

‘What a superb piece of theatre. The casting was spot on and every pupil gave an excellent performance. The costumes, scenery and effects were all fantastic. Well done to Ms Mobbs and all the Upper Prep staff and pupils for putting on such a wonderful show.’

Photographs taken during the dress rehearsal can now be seen on the blog. A display will also be put up in the black hole after half-term. These will be available to parents at no charge. Simply bring in a memory stick to Miss Bedder in reception, tell her the photos you would like and she will save the photos so you can print them yourselves.
