Roald Dahl inspires Year 5!

Over the half term break, Year 5 were set some explorer homework; the challenge was to produce a piece of work based on Roald Dahl. The pupils were very inventive, creating power points, oompa lumpa masks, BFG’s dream jars and even George’s marvellous medicine!

Roald Dahl brought to life by Year 5

An audience of family members and the other Prep School classes enjoyed a very imaginatively-performed and action-packed Roald Dahl themed assembly from Year 5 yesterday.  The children showcased some of the amazing work they have been doing with Mrs Fisher, inspired by Dahl’s stories – designing chocolate and sweets and writing instructions for how to make them. They also gave us songs, dance, an informative role-play interview… and several magnificent bows at the end to much applause! Afterwards, the children took time to share some proud moments with their families.  Many thanks to all who came to support the children and see them in action. The work will be on display in the Prep Department so do come and have a look!

Heads Roll in Cinderella!

Families and friends were treated to a spectacular evening’s entertainment by our Prep department last night. Singing, acting and dancing their way through Roald Dahl’s Cinderella, the talented cast left the audience delighted!

The Jam Man (Henry) was the perfect husband for sweet, down-trodden Cinders (Anna), conjured for her by a truly sparkly Magic Fairy (Cristina). How did she know that the Elvis-styled Prince (Ashlyn) would turn out to be so nasty? Comic moments were in abundance, not least from Warwick and James’ hilarious interpretations of the Ugly Sisters, the gruesome twosome getting more than their just desserts when the Prince decided to cut off their heads! All the characters – from spinning clock to acrobatic cleaning props and rats, carriage and footmen, townsfolk and a rather elegant band of ballroom guests – gave polished, energetic performances and really looked the part, thanks to the creative costuming skills of our parents. All in all it was a fabulous evening with every child taking part and many also involved in producing the effective panto-style backdrops. The children can be very proud indeed – well done, everyone!

More photos will be posted on the blog soon.

Year 2 times 2 to bake a cake

Our boys and girls in Year 2 have been working on their 2 times table. Mrs Wilson decided the perfect way to help our pupils learn was by making cakes!

The class had to weigh out the ingredients, multiply everything by 2, divide the mixture into 2 tins and bake the cakes for 2 x 10 minutes!

It took 2 days to make the cakes (inspired by the book ’The Twits’ by Roald Dahl) and just 2 minutes to eat them!
