On Friday 16th November HOHS’ Upper Prep football team played their first game of the season, and what a fantastic game it was!
After going down 1-0 early on, Max Chambers equalised with a calm and composed finish from 10 yards out. HOHS were playing some great football – particularly their passing and movement – which produced many chances on goal. Harry Groom nearly made the score 2-1 to HOHS before half time, but his shot was just inches wide.
The second half began and Saxlingham Nethergate scored straight from the kick off. A great tackle was made by Harry Groom as a Saxlingham Nethergate player was about to shoot, but the ball unfortunately deflected over goalkeeper Ovi Mahere’s head to make the score 2-1. This did not affect HOHS’ confidence. Oscar Williams was instrumental in midfield, making vital tackles and running with the ball. He was extremely unlucky not to score with a shot well saved by Saxlinghams keeper.
The game was very much end to end during the second half with chances missed by both teams. However, Saxlingham managed to sneak two goals in quick succession to make the score 4-1. The impressive Warwick Davey and James Bell were great in defence and broke up many Saxlingham attacks. Warwick made a well-timed tackle which fell to Harry Groom who ran the length of the pitch, weaving in and out of Saxlingham players, to slot home and set up a tense finish at 4-2. The two HOHS girls in midfield, Emily Grint and Grace Greenfield, were very competitive and their work rate was admirable.
As the game approached the final whistle, Saxlingham snatched a further goal which was very unfortunate for HOHS as Henry Greenfield and Nicholas Green had just made great tackles to prevent an oncoming attack. Final score 5-2.
Overall, a great game for both teams. Well done everyone! Man of the Match – Oscar Williams
