Happy smiles as Year 13 receive A Level results!

It may have been raining outside this morning, but there were sunny smiles in the hall as our Upper Sixth leavers celebrate another good year of A Level results and their next steps into the worlds of higher education and further training.  Mr Crump says:

“Our hard-working Year 13 girls can be proud of their achievements. They are a multi-national year group and we wish them well as they head off to universities in England and beyond – from Newcastle to Canada – or to their chosen workplace-based training.  I am delighted that all those applying to university have gained places on their chosen courses again this year –  something in which the school takes great pride – with  subjects as diverse as geography, animation, paramedicine, equine management and international development.”

The percentage of passes from A*- C has jumped up by twelve per cent on last year’s total – 73% compared to 61% in 2016 – so there is cause for celebration across the board.

Mr Crump added:

“Of course it’s not just about exam results, important and pleasing as they are. We hope our young women leave this school with well-rounded personalities, achievements in many areas and familiarity with leadership, hard work and high personal aspirations – these are the qualities every employer looks for in a rapidly-changing and uncertain world.”

Pictured below, left to right:  2016-17 Head Girl Anna, who will be studying Politics and English Literature at Newcastle University;  Emily, who is off to Royal Holloway College to study geography and Khloe,  who is heading for Brighton to study paramedic practice.

Deputy Head girl Tami, in the second picture,  has been offered places at  York University in Toronto and the University of Ottowa to study International Development as a step towards her ultimate ambition –  to open maternity clinics and paediatric centres in Malawi to help women with obstetric fistulas and premature babies. Tami received three good A Levels and an A* for her Extended Project Qualification,  for which she composed The Bluest Eyes, a song on black women’s self-image. Tami gained  the maximum 100% marks and you can  listen to her powerful song here.
