Sports Update: Summer Term

Welcome back, everyone, from the PE Department – an exciting term awaits us! Now we have the daylight on our side, we commence a term of athletics, cricket and rounders.
We have plenty of rounders fixtures in place for our teams, starting with the U16 team next Wednesday vs Sprowston at home. The picture below is from last summer.

We will be developing our ability to run, jump and throw in preparation for Sports Day which will be on Thursday 21st June. This is a whole school event and something we all look forward to. Sports Day support from parents and family members is greatly encouraged – so if you can come to cheer us on, please do!

We will be introducing the pupils to our new fitness suite and look forward to seeing them all in action. I am wondering whether we can row, ride, run or cycle to somewhere far away if we keep track ofour collective distances as a school?!

Mrs Woods’ end of term Sports Report and gallery

This term saw our pupils play netball, badminton and football, swim in galas, hone our dancing and gymnastics skills and develop our fitness. Rugby tots continues to be a real hit for our youngest pupils. So much fun and enjoyment had by all!

We played 26 fixtures over the term and my personal highlight was our U16 netball match against Thorpe St Andrew School, where after being 8-1 down at half time the girls came back to win 14-13 – incredible!

Inter-house netball saw Ryder win both the Year 7-9 and Years 10-11 competitions, with some great skill on show.  Have a look at the short video clip from the Years 10-11 matches:
Our balcony area has been transformed into a fitness suite housing two treadmills, two bikes and a rowing machine. The suite is just awaiting the fixing of mirrors next week and will be open to pupils after the Easter break, so watch this space for some pictures!

As a busy term has passed, another one is forthcoming and there will be lots of rounders fixtures to announce soon!

Many thanks to Miss Wright, Mrs McEvoy and Katie Brooks for their continued hard work and dedication to the sport at Hethersett Old Hall School. An extra mention must go out to Mrs Maher who has been escorting us on all of our away fixtures. Without fail, she is there cheering our girls on through the wind, rain and the odd sunny day – thank you!

We hope you enjoy the gallery of pictures. Have a great Easter break, everyone!

well in case of very bad weather.

Boys – football. Please send your son’s football boots if he has some, trainers if not, and shin pads (essential). He will also need to bring indoor trainers in
case of inclement weather, and plenty of warm layers!

Girls – netball. Please ensure your daughter has her full indoor games kit.

As always, please check that all your child’s kit is named.

Mrs Woods’ end of term Sports Report

This term has seen us develop our skills in a variety of sports – hockey, gymnastics, netball and badminton – in both lesson time and as extra-curricular activities.

Our fixture schedule was hectic and totalled 40 matches against rival schools and I am pleased to say that every pupil in Years 3-6 had the opportunity to represent the school in two or more hockey fixtures.

The senior school also had their fair share of fixtures, although it is fair to say that we have the majority still to come in the new year!

Lower Prep pupils continued with their Rugby Tots, dance, swimming and hockey lessons and we have seen huge improvements in their sporting

I am proud of the wide range of sporting opportunities we have available to all of our pupils.

Please continue to send your child into school wearing their PE kit on Thursday mornings.

Will be developing ball skills through a variety of games; all pupils require indoor kit but no shin pads or mouth guards will be needed this term.

YEARS 3 – 6
Will have cross country on Thursdays and games on Fridays (football for boys, netball for girls). Please see the note opposite.

Girls will be moving on to netball in the new year and require their indoor kit.

Will have swimming for the second part of their games lesson.

Well done to all our pupils for a great term of sport and PE! Merry Christmas everyone and enjoy the festive season with your families!
