Tennis League Winners

We are delighted to report that both our Years 7 & 8 and our 15 and under teams have won their inter-school tennis leagues!

Last Monday we played two matches against Aylsham High School.

The Years 7 & 8 team of Rachel Y, Anna L, Cristina M-M and Ashlyn G won 4 – 2. The girls then clinched their league title last Tuesday in their final fixture versus Acle.

The 15 and under team also recorded a straight 6-0 victory at Aylsham – well done Hannah Y, Rebekah Y, Skyla-Grace M and Darcey W – and have won their league too!

A fabulous achievement: well done to all the girls and of course to coach Katie. We hope all you tennis fans are enjoying watching Wimbledon!

Rachel in Road to Wimbledon county quarter finals

Last Saturday Rachel Y (Year 8) represented HOHS at the county finals of the Road to Wimbledon 14 and Under Challenge County Finals,  held at East Anglia Tennis and Squash Club. Rachel played superbly, reaching the quarter-finals to finish in the top eight players in this age group in the county.  Well done, Rachel! She is pictured below with HOHS team mates following a victory at Hethersett Academy last month.

  • Did you know…?

The Road to Wimbledon 14 and Under Challenge is a unique competition which enables schools and tennis clubs throughout the country to inspire their 14 and Under players, with regional winners having the opportunity to play on the grass courts at Wimbledon in August.  Throughout the Summer Term, many singles matches were played at school: these established Rachel Y and Anna L (Year 8) as our school champions eligible to participate in the County Finals. Sadly, Anna was unable to attend the finals event.

Year 7 and 8 victory v Hethersett Academy

On Monday our Year 7&8 tennis team played against Hethersett Academy in their first league match of the season. The match format is four singles and two doubles matches.

Our team of Rachel Y, Anna L, Cristina M-M, Ashlyn G and Darcey W performed magnificently against a very strong team. Hethersett Academy’s number one player is ranked number 1 in Norfolk in the Under 12 age group.

After all the singles and doubles matches had been completed, in total six matches, the score was 3-3.

This meant that we had an exciting tie-break situation to decide the match: a  doubles tiebreak shoot-out, just like a penalty shoot-out in football!

Rachel and Cristina played brilliantly and won the tiebreak 10-5!

The overall match score was HOHS 4  Hethersett Academy 3.

It was an outstanding team performance and a wonderful result against a much larger school – well done everyone.

Match Report: U12 and U14 netball v Thetford Grammar School

On a sunny but windy afternoon this week, the U14 and U12 netball teams travelled to Thetford. Both teams demonstrated how using channels within the game can help us to spread out to receive a pass. Sadly, neither team won but Players of the Match went to Harriet and Ruby D. Well done girls!

Important U13 hockey update

Please note that Riddlesworth Hall have reluctantly had to postpone our U13 hockey fixture there today as their pitch is unplayable. The pupils will have hockey as normal during lesson time but it may affect pick-up times for parents. Pupils will be able to call their parents to check arrangement but of course are welcome to stay and day board until they can be collected. Our apologies for any inconvenience.
