University offers are already flooding in!

ukAll of the Year 13 university applications were completed and sent off well in advance of the closing date of January 15th. Within days the offers started to flood in.

To date all students have had offers or invitations to interviews and some have heard from all five of their university choices. This is fantastic news and the Sixth Form is really buzzing with excitement as new offers appear daily. So far no-one has had a rejection, quite something in this competitive market.

Well done to the girls for working hard on their personal statements and for preparing their application forms so promptly.

Art Club entries for the Education Art Prize 2013

The Senior School Art Club has been getting creative this term with some Pop Bang Colour for the The Education Art Prize 2013, a prestigious competition open to all schools and students up to (and including) the age of 18.

The students had to design an original piece of work, using alternative ways to create art, using anything other than a paint brush to get colour on to their piece. Their work was inspired by Ian Cook, a unique artist who has made appearances on TV programmes such as Top Gear, The One Show and Blue Peter, to name just a few.

Our Pop Bang Colour competition entries are by Ella Kassulke (Year 8), Grace Robinson (Year 8) and Paisley Simpson (Year 9) Mia Ellis Wood (Year 8), Phillippa Hardesty (Year 7), Lacey Mayes (Year 7), Aisling Kendall (Year 7), Francesca Goodfellow (Year 8), India Simmons (Year 9), Charlotte Snell (Year 8) and Lottie Whattam (Year 9).

The competition winners will be announced in January. Good luck to all our girls!

Goodbye Sammy and Sophie!

At the end of term we had to say farewell to two of our gap students, Sammy and Sophie, who have been with us for the past year. During this period we have shared many lovely memories with them. Sammy and Sophie have contributed to several activities within the school, including helping the Pre-Prep and organising activities for the boarders.

Having them around has been a wonderful experience that will never be forgotten. They will be missed greatly by all the boarders and we wish them success in the future endeavours.

Going under the microscope

Jess Warner and I joined other A Level biology students at the John Innes Centre recently to learn more about their microscopes.

The bioimaging unit gave a talk and demonstrations on a range of different microscopes, including fluorescence and electron microscopes.

It was a wonderful opportunity to see science at work and real-life processes and link to what we have learnt in the classroom.
