Match report: U9 & U11 hockey v St Felix School

Last Friday saw us play a very strong St Felix School at hockey. Despite our best efforts, both the U9 and U11 teams lost. However, this was the first match for many of our pupils and an opportunity to experience the challenge of playing a new opposition and work on some of our basic hockey skills.

Match report: U13 hockey v Wymondham High School

We went into our last game of the term with confidence, having earned a respectable draw against Norwich High last week. We started brightly and created a number of opportunities to score, but the Wymondham goalkeeper was on top form and saved many of our shots. Despite spending long periods of time in the Wymondham half we were caught on the break and allowed their strong centre midfield to come through, ending the first half 2-0 down.

We started the second half much brighter and a well-worked goal, resulted in a well-placed finish from Harriet. We once again let Wymondham back into the game with some sloppy defending, but pulled the score back to 3-2 from an great individual effort from Isabel H. We finished the second half strongly but had to rely on goalkeeper Emily, who was on top form to keep us in the game.

A disappointing result, but we played some great hockey and it was a close game.

Player of the match was awarded jointly to Rebekah and Isabel H.

Match report: U12/13 hockey v Taverham Hall School

Sports-iconOn a drizzly Wednesday afternoon the U12/13 A and B hockey teams travelled to Taverham to play Taverham Hall School.

In the first game we played a 7 v 7 game, narrowly losing 2-0, with a goal from Isabel H being disallowed and playing the game with no goal keeper. Despite the score, the team played some excellent passing hockey and we had a number of saves made by the Taverham Hall goalkeeper.

Player of the match was awarded to Hannah Y for some solid tackling and composed passing when under pressure.

In the second set of games we played two five-a-side games and came up against some experienced Taverham Hall opposition. Despite putting up a good fight, and with a number of opportunities on both pitches, we came away second best but with another hockey game experience under our belts.

Player of the Match was awarded to Sarah K for never giving up and working hard.

SQUAD: Sophie B, Isabelle S, Sophie S, Talia G, Rebekah Y, Isabel H, Sarah K, Lacey M, Hannah Y and Caitlin C.

Junior Schools’ Challenge

Our school has taken part in this exciting knock-out quiz for 25 years. The current squad consists of captain Charlotte from Year 8, alongside (Year 7s) Ria, Lacey and Aisling, all of whom had to impress me through merciless auditions!

This afternoon they face Taverham Hall in a home match. For success not only must the girls display a breadth of knowledge but one or two need to be razor-sharp on those buzzers! Victory would mean a place in one of East Anglia’s semi-finals.

We wish our team the very best of luck.
