A visitor in The Barn

Here are a few more photos from our end of term Prep Christmas parties and a visit from a certain very popular old gentleman.  We hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and getting ready for the big day on Monday – if you’re good he might visit again!

HOHS rambles on for Pudsey

Today was Pudsey Bear’s special day and as well as having a non-uniform day for the whole school, pupils and staff were busy organising various other activities  to support Children in Need.

Year 6 filled a large picture of Pudsey with pennies; later they joined the whole Prep Department for a ramble through the woods and around our lovely autumnal grounds, inspired by BBC’s Country File Ramble event. After a very blustery and chilly morning, it was good to see the sun come out in time for this!

Meanwhile, Ellie, Romily and Skyla-Grace from our Years 4 and 5 had been making lovely Hama bead animals, necklaces and other items and raised £20.27 from selling them at break time.

There are more pictures from this afternoon’s ramble here.

Upper Prep build bridges for National Science Week

As part of the British Science Association’s National Science Week, our Upper Prep department was given the challenge of designing a bridge that would span 30 centimetres.

Our pupils, who worked in mixed-age house teams, were given a limited amount of materials to construct the strongest bridge possible. Some very interesting and original bridges were created and then tested for strength.

The results were as follows:

Ist Fry: Christina Moretti-Miles, Imogen Stubbs, Oscar Williams, Ria Simmons

2nd Austen: Anna Luterbacher, Sarah Kendall, Harry Groom

3rd Ryder: Ashlyn Gibb, Alabama Thompson, Isabelle Sellors, Mollie Deeks

The most attractive bridge was made by Aisling Kendall, Ovi Mahere, Emily Grint and Olivia Hendrie of Austen house.

Congratulations to all the children for creating some amazing bridges.

Upper Prep Christmas party

Our Upper Prep pupils also enjoyed a Christmas party last Wednesday.

Noise levels were even higher than normal in the Barn that afternoon, with plenty of running around, games and crazy dancing from all involved. Father Christmas once again stopped by to say hello and was spotted helping himself to a plate or two of Mr Reeve’s mince pies on the way out.

Lots more photos from the party can be seen here.
