Boarders hit the slopes and go tubing

This week the boarders went to Trowse to experience Tubing. For those not ‘in the know’,  this involves whizzing down a dry ski slope in a large inflatable ring….and crashing into the foam barriers at the end. The combination of speed and wind in the hair was exhilarating and there was a great deal of laughter and yelling from all involved. Some girls even managed to cope with the inflatable being spun so they went down the slopes in circles…although this proved too much for the staff, who retreated to a safe area to observe the fun and calm down with a cup of hot chocolate!

Winnie and Bubbles settle in

The boarders are very excited as their two 8-week-old baby guinea pigs, both females,  arrived on Thursday. Mr Crump took some of the girls to the pet shop to choose the guinea pigs and stock up on the supplies needed to look after them, and they were then duly installed in an indoor hutch for the time being. Once Spring comes and the weather warms up they will be living in the courtyard, in the smart hutch generously donated by Mr Lake and Miss Carr. The boarders have named the pair Winnie and Bubbles and we will check in on them from time to time for the blog as they grow!

Boarders bowled over!

The start of a new term means a whole new programme of trips and activities for the boarders. We started the term with a trip to a local bowling alley last weekend. The girls divided into two teams and spent a very noisy and happy couple of hours cheering each other on, trying not to laugh too much when the ball decided to do its own thing!  Luckily, the side barriers were put up for the second game and so the points were a lot higher, although the girls maintain that this is because the milkshakes and burgers they were eating helped them to aim better…

Boarders visit Colchester Zoo

Last weekend our boarders went to Colchester Zoo and came face to face with giraffes, an orangutan and more.

Colchester Zoo is rated on the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Attractions Awards as the eleventh best zoo in the world and in the top two zoos in the UK! With over 270 species to see, the boarders enjoyed a fabulous day. A highlight was feeding time with the giraffes. See more photos from the trip.

Boarders visit Cambridge

On Saturday 13th June our boarders took a day trip to Cambridge.

Despite the weather being less than perfect we had a great time in the warm and cosy train. First stop was the Fudge Kitchen where we saw the fudge being cooled and set. They were really nice to us and we got to taste both the warm vanilla fudge and the cooled chocolate fudge.

Then it was off to the punts for a relaxing 45 minute trip on the River Cam. It turned out to be something of an adventure as a duck decided to hitch a lift and then another punt crashed into us and lots of water came in the boat too! We had some really warm rugs to snuggle up under and the rain had stopped so it was a great trip and the ideal time to eat lunch as the various sights were being pointed out to us.

After an hour examining the famous market it was back onto the bus for the short trip to the station. The train home was empty so we made the most of so much space and some of us even had a cheeky nap!

Boarders head to Funky Monkeys

Last weekend the boarders went roller skating at Funky Monkeys. It’s fair to say that it was a mixed ability group from the semi-professional Khloe and Mrs Wright to the barely upright who were skating for the first time. Inspite of the odd bump and bruise a good time was had by all.

Personally, I would have loved to join in but someone had to remain on terra firma for health and safety reasons. (Well, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!) See more photos here.
