Year 10 drama march for women!

Year 10 drama pupils will be performing their GCSE devised piece in The Barn on Speech Day at 1.00pm for all pupils, staff and parents who would like to see it.

For the exam, the girls were required to choose from several stimuli to devise and perform an original piece,  and opted for  ‘Sisters’.  After extensive research, they decided to base the performance on  the Suffrage movement – highly topical  in this centenary year of women gaining the vote.

We wish the girls luck with their exam performance on Monday.  Good luck, too, to Rosamaria E (Year 10) who has been selected as an ‘extra’ on the set of a forthcoming  Richard Curtis / Danny Boyle musical film.

  • Did you know….2018 marks 100 years since women in Britain got the vote, thanks to the tireless campaigning and personal sacrifice of the Suffragettes.

Year 10 jump in the river!

Our Year 10 geographers experienced two field days away at the weekend, based at Overstrand Hall near Cromer.  After arriving by minibus on Friday evening they settled into the impressive hall, ate together and prepared for the next day’s data collection in the River Glaven.  Although Saturday dawned grey and cold,  the girls plunged into the river undaunted. They collected a variety of data including velocity (using a hydroprop and a float), bedload measurements, width, depth and wetted perimeter. Using computer software they then analysed the data to see if a significant impact has been made on this river by man – and proved that it has. On Sunday we travelled into Norwich and collected data at Riverside and King Street to observe regeneration factors. The girls worked very hard until 9.00pm on both evenings: perhaps the chocolate cake and sweets helped!

Year 10 lighting up the lab

Year 10 girls took on an interesting challenge in their last science lesson at the end of term, working in pairs or small groups. The task? To create a working model lighthouse, the taller the better, using only newspaper and a few other specified bits and pieces.  They were halfway through the challenge when these pictures were snapped, so we’re not sure which team won, or what scientific principles were applied… but the concentration levels and competitive spirit were certainly in evidence!
